BBQ Tofu

Happy Fourth of July!

Today, I bring you a delicious barbecue recipe. . . that's also vegan.

BBQ Tofu!

This easy and tasty tofu dish is sure to be a hit at any 4th of July party. Or anywhere at all for that matter.

Barbecued Tofu - original recipe can be found here
  • 2 blocks extra firm tofu
  • 3 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
  • 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
  • Juice from 1 lime
  • 3/4 cup tamari
  • 1/4 cup ketchup
  • 1 tsp sweet Asian chile sauce
  • 5 tbsp maple syrup
Cut each block of tofu into thin slices.  I chose to make squares, but you could choose to do triangles as well.  Next, press the tofu for at least 30 minutes by placing the slices on a kitchen towel, putting a cookie sheet on top, and piling on a couple cans.  While tofu is pressing, make barbecue sauce in food processor by combining the remaining ingredients plus 2 tablespoons water.  Mix until smooth.  Preheat oven to 350 degrees.  Put tofu pieces in large casserole dish and pour barbecue sauce over, making sure that everything is coated with sauce.  Cover with foil.  Bake for 1 hour, turning once halfway through.

Even without a trace of meat, this tofu comes out full of flavor, thanks to an easy homemade barbecue sauce and a very interesting method used to remove moisture before baking.

Healthy, vegan, and delicious has never been so easy!
